Description
The Baytown Police Department consists of 149 sworn officers and 52 support personnel, providing law enforcement services for the City of Baytown.  Baytown is located approximately 30 miles east of the city of Houston with a population of over 71,000 and has jurisdiction in both Harris and Chambers Counties. 
The department is broken down into four bureaus: Administration, Patrol Bureau, Support / Investigations Bureau, and Community Services Bureau.
The Baytown Police Department has been recognized for it's Best Practices Program by the Texas Police Chiefs Association.

Armed, suicidal man keeps Baytown SWAT and Negotiators busy in a barricade situation while under assault from Tropical Storm Allison. After 17 hours of negotiations during torential rains, SWAT officers breach the location and take subject into custody with no loss of life.

Charles "T-Bone" Shaffer becomes Chief of Police after the retirement of Chief Henscey. Chief Shaffer serves until 2002.

Hurricane Alicia strikes the upper Texas coast, with Baytown reporting tides of 10-12 feet. The Baytown sub-division of Brownwood is wiped out, later to become the Baytown Nature Center.

Aubrey Wayne Henscey becomes Chief of the Baytown Police Department. Having served with the department since 1960, Chief Henscey served until 1992.

Baytown Officer Bobby Tyson Paulk is killed when a drunk driver pulls in front of his patrol vehicle. Officer Paulk is the first Baytown officer to be killed in the line of duty.

R.H. "Bo" Turner becomes Baytown's Chief of Police. He serves as Chief until March, 1982.

Baytown Officer and Police Cadet ambushed by two armed robbers and both are shot. The wounded officer was able to return fire and killed both robbers. The officer and Cadet survived their wounds and marked the first time Baytown officers had been shot in the line of duty.

John B. Wilkinson named as Chief of Police to replace Blair Mann. Wilkinson serves as Chief until 1976.

John Wayne films the movie "Hellfighters" in and around Baytown with Baytown Police Officers serving as security and extras in the movie. The movie was a tribute to Red Adair, pioneer oilwell fire fighter.

Blair Mann appointed as Baytown's fourth Chief of Police. He serves until August 1969.

Baytown appoints Robert Forche as Chief, after the passing of Chief Roy Montgomery, who died in office. Forche resigned in July, 1964.

Baytown Police Chief McKee resigns. Roy Montgomery becomes 2nd Chief.
Chief McKee resigned and Roy Montgomery became the second dhief in department history.

The City of Baytown is established with the joining of the towns of Goose Creek, Pelly, and Baytown. The first Chief of Police was H.E. McKee, assisted by seven other officers.
