Description

The Gettysburg Borough Police Department serves approximately 7,600 citizens, 2 colleges (Gettysburg College and Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary) and up to 3 million visitors a year (Per Gettysburg Visitor's and Convention Center).

The department is composed of a Chief, 2 Sergeants, 8 patrolman, 2 detectives, 3 part-time officers, 2 civilian administrators, 3 parking officers and up to 12 auxiliary officers.  The patrols are divided into two squads, A and B.  Each squad has a Sergeant, 4 patrolman, a part-time officer and detective.  We work 11 1/2 hour shifts which results in a two week cycle of 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on and 3 off.  This gives the officers every other weekend off and no less than 2 officers on at a time.

The department works with the Adams County Drug Task Force and County DUI Enforcement, US Marshalls and ICE.

We work closely with our fellow brothers and sisters of the Thin Blue Line; the Pennsylvania State Police-Gettysburg Barracks, Cumberland Township PD, Liberty Township PD, Bonneville PD, Carroll Valley PD, Biglerville PD, PA State Wildlife Conservation Officers, Adams County Detectives, Gettysburg National Park Rangers as well as Littlestown PD, McSherrystown PD, Conewago Township PD, Eastern Adams Regional PD, Reading Township PD, East Berlin PD, Latimore Township PD, Bendersville PD, Hamiltonban Township PD, PA State Parole Office, Adams County Probation Office, Adams County State Constables, Adams County Sheriff Office and the Adams County DA's Office.
