The Mantoloking Police Dept. was established in 1911. At that time, we had one police officer, who was Chief J. Harrison “Hat” Herbert. He was designated as Badge # 1. Since that time, we have grown to 7 full-time officers including the Chief’s position.
We are a small 24-hour Police Dept. that is ready to provide the same services that any larger police dept. can. We patrol a 2.2-mile stretch of Route 35 in Ocean County, NJ, and our widest point is less than a half mile. The Atlantic Ocean and the Barnegat Bay surround us. We have a boat patrol that patrols the Barnegat Bay between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
