The funeral arrangements for Trooper Jill Mattice have been announced by the New York State Police. Mattice was the first female trooper to be killed in the line of duty on Wednesday after being involved in a car accident. The two-day wake will take place at the Amigone Funeral Home in Tonawanda. It will be held Sunday, January 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then again on Monday, January 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will take place the following day on Tuesday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church in Williamsville. Mattice's body will be buried at the Interment Ceremony at White Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.

State police say a state trooper has been killed when her patrol car collided with a tractor-trailer on a rural upstate New York. Police say 31-year-old Trooper Jill Mattice was traveling east on State Route 23 when she collided with the westbound truck around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the Otsego County town of Morris, 57 miles southeast of Syracuse. Police say Mattice was pronounced deceased at the scene.

State police say she was a six-year veteran who was stationed at the Oneonta barracks and assigned as the school resource officer for the Unadilla Valley and Franklin school districts. Route 23 was closed after the accident and traffic rerouted around the accident scene.

I did not know you Jill but all the things I have read lead me to believe you were a person who would have been fun to be around. I watched the youtube tribute video and feel I need to say thank you for your service......you truly are missed!!!

Mattice was driving her state police car up a grade and rounding a right curve on state Route 23 in Morris, Otsego County, when the vehicle drifted across the center line and struck the trailer portion of an oncoming tractor trailer, state police said. Mattice’s front bumper hit the driver’s side of the trailer and continued until it hit the step and track of a gravel screener that the truck was carrying. Mattice died at the scene.

Forensic investigators checked Mattice’s cell phone, which was found in the car, and determined that none of its applications was in use at or about the time of the collision, state police said. Weather, roadway design, pavement defects, speed and vehicle defects also were ruled out as possible contributing factors. Alcohol and toxicology studies conducted in January came back negative and an autopsy revealed no underlying medical conditions that might have contributed, troopers said.
