Trooper Robert Garrison was killed instantly from a skull fracture he suffered in a traffic accident at about 6:40 pm on State Road 67 in Delaware County.
While responding to a report that a child had been bitten by a dog, Trooper Garrison swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of him and struck a tow truck. The car, occupied by numerous teenagers, had stopped to make a left-hand turn.
Trooper Garrison had served with the Indiana State Police for over four years and was assigned to the Pendleton post. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served as a military policeman. Trooper Garrison was survived by his wife, two sons, daughter and parents.
While working at the Pendleton District, Trooper Garrison was patrolling on State Road 67 when he was involved in a automobile accident. Trooper Garrison died instantly of head injuries sustained in the crash.
