State Traffic Officer Charles Alvitre was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty. He was descending a grade when he lost control and was thrown to the ground.

Officer Alvitre was a member of the Monterey County Traffic Squad, which pre-dates the California Highway Patrol that was not established until August 1929.

Officer Alvitre was a United States Army veteran of World War
One, serving as a private in the 103 Aero Squadron. He was survived by his wife and parents. He is buried in the Old Calvary Cemetery in Salinas, California
