J. R Conroy woked as a military policeman in the US Army, riding troop trains around the western US from 1944-1946, after being injured as an infantryman in Italy.
In 1946 he became a jailer and then an officer for the Dallas P. D.
He later worked the Houston area, Jacinto City P.D. and Baytown P. D.
In 1993 or 94 he again became an officer, for the Willis, Texas Police Department.
He also worked for a college in Mesquite, Texas as an officer during that time period.
Many of the dates are seculative due to trying to piece the story back together after so many years, but the departments are factually correct.
Other Comments:
Thanks to retired Baytown PD Corporal Randy Rhodes research efforts I am able to definitively say that J. R. Conroy, JR was fired from Baytown P.D. in 1951 for accusing the Chief of Police of conducting "selective enforcement" and issuing a ten page supporting document to City Council, as well as going to the local newspaper over this.
One more piece of the puzzle.
