Trooper David Lane was killed in an automobile accident while on patrol in the town of Catskill.

He was traveling north on State Route 32 when he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle. The vehicles made contact and Trooper Lane's vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

Trooper Lane had served with the New York State Police for four years and was assigned to the Catskill Station. He had previously served with the United States Army in Iraq and Afghanistan.

New York State Trooper David J. Lane was killed in the line of duty. Trooper David Lane was killed in an automobile accident while on patrol the town of Catskill. He was traveling north on State Route 32 when he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle. The vehicles made contact and Trooper Lane's vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.
He was the son of Stephen R. and Cheryl D. Thomas Lane. He graduated General Brown High School in 1997 and attended SUNY Albany. He entered the Army November 5, 2001 and served in Afghanistan from July 2002 until January 2003. He returned home and served in Iraq from July 2003 until April 2004. He served with 82nd Airborne Division, 307th Engineers, Company C. He served for the past four years with the State Police. He was stationed in Catskill, N.Y. with Troop F. Surviving are his parents Stephen and Cheryl Lane of Dexter, NY, a brother Stephen and wife Kate Lane of Webster, N.Y., Fiancee Kelly Martin of Catskill N.Y., grandparents Lowell and Shelia Thomas of Dexter, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Trooper Lane was killed in an automobile accident while on patrol when he attempted to pass another vehicle. The vehicles made contact and Trooper Lane's vehicle drove off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, causing him to suffer fatal injuries. Trooper Lane was a resident of Green County. He had served with the U.S. Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. Trooper Lane had worked for the state police for four years, beginning in Troop F, which includes the Catskill barracks, and then being assigned to Troop D in Oneida, in central New York, before returning to Catskill. Trooper Lane was a 1997 graduate of General Brown High School and attended Albany State University before being prompted to join the Army after the September 11, 2001 attacks. He is survived by his parents, Cheryl D. and Stephen R. Lane.
