Trooper Floyd Farrar was struck and killed as he was assisting a semi driver with two flat tires. Trooper Farrar stopped in the eastbound lane of Route 103 in Schuyler County. Another trucker had already pulled over to help. Trooper Farrar stopped behind two trucks and stepped to the rear of his squad car to get flares from the trunk. Just as he stepped out on the road to place the flares, a westbound car struck him and tossed him 70 feet. The impact killed him instantly.

Trooper Floyd J. Farrar served with the U.S. military prior to joining the Illinois State Police on October 4, 1945 and was a World War II veteran. He was currently assigned to District 14. Trooper Farrar's wife and two children survive.
