Deputy John Sack was shot and killed while serving a warrant on a man for a code violation for not cutting his grass.
Deputy Sack told the man to get his ATM card so that he could post bail. As Deputy Sack exited the residence to wait for the man he was shot in the back. The suspect was shot and killed in the ensuing standoff.
Deputy Sack had served with the Peoria County Sheriff's Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
