Bill was not only my supervisor when I went into the Detective Section, but he was my mentor and friend.
He knew everyone and one thing he taught me from the beginning, was to make your contacts with businesses, people, other agencies. That way when you needed something, you had a POC (point of contact.)
Bill was a massive man, well over 6 foot and had bear paws for hands, but his heart was warm and of gold. If he liked you, he would do anything for you.
I can remember one night when we were working together, my wife called with a problem with the comode. We stopped by the house, Bill looked at it and said come on. We went to a hardware store, got the parts and return to my house. He folded up his white shirt sleeves and installed the parts in the comode. This was Bill.
Bill and I worked many shifts together and our bond became close. He had a small 75 acre farm which he worked for a hobby. Often on a Saturday, I would go to the farm and help kill and skin steers for the butcher shop, or put hay into the barn and he even let me drive a tractor once in a while. Boy that was a mistake. Sometimes we would blanch sweet corn in the driveway to the barn in a large kettle and there was always butter, salt and pepper handy to help fill your belly while working.
After retirement, Bill and his wife, Carole, moved to Arizona and had a small SUV park that they worked. Several years later, Bill came home surprisingly.
Bill died here in Carlisle shortly thereafter, where his roots started.
I miss Bill and fondly think of all of the adventures that we had. I'll never forget him.
I pray for God to Bless his soul.
